Dellin Betances Expected to Be Fully Recovered From Achilles Tear by December
By Parker White
Free agent reliever Dellin Betances had a miserable 2019 with the New York Yankees, as he missed much of the year with a shoulder injury and a lat strain. He came back in September for the stretch run, but in his lone appearance against the Toronto Blue Jays he suffered a partially torn Achilles.
That's a tough injury to come back from and can take some time, but according to Andy Martino of SNY, Betances is expected to be fully recovered from the Achilles injury and have a normal offseason by December.
This is great news for Betances, especially since he's hitting the free agent market. Teams will still be leery of giving Betances big money, but if he doesn't return to the Yankees, he should be able to fetch a respectable one-year deal if he can prove he's healthy by the end of the year, which he should have every opportunity to do via a physical.
Betances' last full season came in 2018, in which the four-time All-Star made 66 appearances and posted a 2.70 ERA with 115 strikeouts over 66.2 innings.
