Demarcus Robinson Contract Details Prove Chiefs Got an Absolute Bargain

Teams all around the NFL will be trying to copy the Kansas City Chiefs' formula in order to win a Super Bowl. Finding the next Patrick Mahomes is the hard part. However, the Chiefs do plenty of other things right that teams can start to build upon.
One of those is drafting, developing and retaining talented players. The Chiefs selected wide receiver Demarcus Robinson in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He got off to a slow start, increased his production every year, and is now back on a one-year deal after hitting free agency. All for a total of less than $2.3 million (only $1 million of which will count against the cap).
Demarcus Robinson’s one-year deal is worth $2,297,500 fully guaranteed. That’s the maximum allowed to qualify for the new veteran salary benefit under the CBA. So Robinson gets guaranteed money, but only counts around $1M on the #Chiefs’ cap. https://t.co/e5REnm4Uvm

This is an absolute steal for the Chiefs. Robinson returns on a minimum deal after finishing last year with 449 yards and four touchdowns, which were both career highs. He was the fifth-leading receiver in one of the most dynamic offenses ever seen, and somehow other teams didn't see value in his abilities.

Kansas City made the no-brainer move after Robinson had time to test the market.
There are plenty of "football guys" running NFL teams. Not wanting to sign a receiver who just won a Super Bowl and who has gotten better every single year of his career will prove to be a mistake, especially if he carves himself out an even bigger role in the Chiefs offense in 2020.
