Deontay Wilder Maintains He's Best in the World After Calling Out Anthony Joshua
Anthony Joshua got his revenge on Andy Ruiz Jr. this weekend with a victory by unanimous decision in front of a packed crowd in Saudi Arabia.
The victory, where both men were left standing, was a shot at redemption for AJ, who had been defeated in the seventh round by Ruiz in their initial bout. Unfortunately, their scrap did not impress fellow heavyweight Deontay Wilder.
"Fans come to see knockouts. They come to see something dramatic. A body lying on the canvas, spread like it's having birth. That's what people want to see, and that's my mentality," said Wilder via The Athletic.
41 of Wilder's 42 career wins have come via knockout. Joshua was a bit more strategic in his win over Ruiz, though he still boasts 21 career knockout victories in 24 fights.
The two heavyweights have never met in the ring and Wilder is currently busy preparing for a fight against Tyson Fury. All this talk could lead to a dream fight if Wilder is victorious against the Gypsy King in February.
The only way to figure out if Wilder is indeed the best is for him to eventually take on Joshua. That may have happened sooner if not for Joshua's shocking loss to Ruiz Jr. the first time around.
With AJ's showing leaving Wilder less than impressed, we're hoping these two schedule a meeting in the ring in the future.
