Details of Marcus Smart's Eye Infection Are Really, Really Gross
By Jerry Trotta

The Boston Celtics just finished off an impressive 118-102 road victory over the previously streaking Toronto Raptors.
They did so without tenacious defender Marcus Smart, who has been out of commission the last few weeks with a double eye infection. This alone is cringeworthy, but the details surrounding Smart's recent day-to-day struggles are seriously disgusting.
Smart's description is genuinely difficult to put into words, so let's just say that the "sticky" discharge has been giving him some problems in the opening your eye department.

And that sound you hear is the stomach of every NBA fan who ate themselves sick on Christmas Eve becoming unsettled.
We never thought we'd live to see the words "mucus" and "membrane" paired together, but the Association, particularly the enigmatic Smart never ceases to amaze.
The fact that Smart was temporarily blinded from the infection is shocking. Lucky for him, there is light at the end of this dark, tumultuous tunnel.

The contagious part of Smart's illness has reportedly ended, and he has been cleared to resume basketball activities.
The 25-year-old guard is still working himself back into game shape, but it's fair to say that a double eye infection is something he wouldn't wish upon his worst enemy.
And he's certainly made one or two since entering the league in 2014.
