Devin McCourty Wants Patriots to Bring Back Chris Hogan for Some Reason
By Jerry Trotta
Given their veteran ingenuity and sense of chemistry, most NFL analysts take what Devin and Jason McCourty have to say with incredible value. However, that narrative might end following the former's latest comments on the New England Patriots' predicament at wide receiver.
On the latest episode of his "Double Coverage" podcast, McCourty was listing reasons for the Patriots to re-sign...Chris Hogan, who is still braving free agency following a stint with the Carolina Panthers in 2019.
It's quite easy to connect the dots here, but New England needs a game-breaker at WR, not -- with all due respect -- a 32-year-old veteran who's significantly prone to injury. Hogan missed eight games with a knee injury last season, and though he blossomed with the Pats from 2016-2018, his production and overall value was severely exaggerated, and his '18 season was distinctly worse than the previous two.
During that span, Hogan never notched more than 38 receptions or five touchdowns in a single season. His rapport with Tom Brady was palpable, but the Foxborough legend plays in Tampa Bay now. Who's to say that Hogan will mesh with whoever New England decides to roll out at quarterback next season?
We seriously thought McCourty knew better than to tab an aging, oft-injured veteran the answer at wide receiver for the Patriots. His take is puzzling, to say the least.
