Patriots' Devin McCourty and Wife Michelle Reveal They Lost Baby Daughter in Heartbreaking Instagram Post
By Jerry Trotta
At this point, we're just convinced that the year 2020 is cursed.
It continued living up to its merciless bearer of bad news billing on Saturday when New England Patriots defensive back Devin McCourty tragically took to Instagram to reveal that he and his wife, Michelle, lost their daughter, who was to be named Mia, due to a stillbirth.
Michelle needed a string of posts to articulate the sheer agony she's feeling in the wake of this gut-wrenching tragedy, which Devin shared with a painful message of his own.
We can't even put into words what the McCourty family must be going through. To think that the couple came as close as they did to enjoying the blessing that is parenthood is absolutely heartbreaking.
"We held our baby, wrapped in a blanket, cute as ever, looking just like our son Brayden when he was born, but she had no breaths," Michelle wrote. "No cries. No movement. Doctors say they have no answers for why this happens. It just sadly does."
What makes this tragedy all the more saddening is the fact that the McCourty's said the baby checked out perfectly healthy at their appointment the previous week.
This is unspeakably awful news, and we send our wholehearted condolences to Michelle, Devin, and the McCourty family as they attempt to reckon with Mia's tragic passing.
