Dexter Fowler's Wife Calls Out Cardinals Broadcaster Tim McCarver Over 'Bad Read' Comment
By Sean Facey
Aliya Fowler, wife of St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dexter Fowler, isn't one to shy away from an argument on social media. She's always been an incredibly vocal supporter of her husband, and that was particularly true on Tuesday night.
She called out Cardinals broadcaster Tim McCarver for saying that her husband took a bad route to a ball that he still ended up leaping up to catch cleanly.
Tell us how you really feel, Aliya.
It's good to see that she has her husband's back when the media comes after him. Fowler has struggled dealing with both the media and the fans during his time in St. Louis. His inconsistent play both at the plate and in the outfield have made him an incredibly polarizing figure.
In fairness to McCarver, though, Fowler's defense has been less than impressive this year. According to Statcast, he ranks in the eighth percentile in outfielder jump in 2019, and he's managed -4 outs above average. He has by no means had a good season in the outfield across the board.
While it's perfectly reasonable for Aliya to come to her husband's defense, McCarver was just doing his job. It might not have actually been a bad read after all, but the man's merely rendering his opinion.
