Stephen Jones Says Dez Bryant Texted Him and Said He Wants to Return to Cowboys
By Jerry Trotta
Former Pro Bowl wideout Dez Bryant has been meticulously plotting a return to the NFL even though he hasn't played since 2017.
He had a gig lined up with the New Orleans Saints in 2018, but suffered a torn Achilles just days after signing with the franchise. Bryant has since posted a plethora of workout videos, indicating that he's healthy enough for a return.
However, the 31-year-old vet has yet to be signed, and given his lack of suitors, he apparently reached out to Dallas Cowboys CEO Stephen Jones with a comeback in mind.
As expected, Jones provided a vague response to reporters regarding his conversation with Bryant.
"He has texted me that he would like to come back," Jones said, according to the Fort Worth Star Telegram. "We have nothing but great respect for Dez and what he accomplished here. Certainly, as we look forward into the future, we look at all opportunities and all potential players that could maybe help us out."
We won't jump to conclusions here, but it sure sounds like Jones and the Cowboys have, at best, minimal interest in a reunion with their former first-round pick.
Considering the number of bridges that Bryant burned on his way out of town after the 2017 season, we would be flabbergasted if Dallas opts to run it back with the aging free-agent receiver.
