Dez Bryant Tweets Perfect Response to Cowboys Giving CeeDee Lamb His Jersey Number
By Scott Rogust
Just about no one thought it was possible that Oklahoma wide receiver CeeDee Lamb would drop all the way to pick No. 17 of the 2020 NFL Draft, but that's what happened. Jerry Jones gleefully called in the pick from his $250 million yacht to make Lamb a Dallas Cowboy.
Now that Lamb's in the NFL, he has to select his jersey number. The rookie was pushing to wear No. 10, but Jones advocated that he wear No. 88. Of course, that number recently belonged to Dez Bryant, but the former 2014 first-round pick let all of Twitter know that he has zero problems with Lamb taking it.
The No. 88 is synonymous with some of the greatest receivers in the franchise's history. Generations of Cowboys fans saw the likes of Bryant, Michael Irvin, and Drew Pearson dominate opposing defenses while wearing those digits.
As it turns out, the jersey holds a special place in the heart of Jones. The owner used to play football with the Arkansas Razorbacks during his college days, and his friend, Jerry Lamb, wore No. 88 for the team. This past December, Lamb passed away, and Jones wanted to honor his former teammate by assigning the number to CeeDee.
Blown away by the honor to wear the number, Lamb obliged.
So for those of you who thought that Lamb took the number to stroke his ego, you have some apologizing to do. Plus, Bryant has no issue with the rookie wearing No. 88, so you shouldn't either.
