Diamondbacks Acquire Mike Leake From Mariners
By Michael Luciano
The Arizona Diamondbacks have continued to add some solid starting pitching at the 2019 MLB Trade Deadline, as they have swung deals for promising Marlins right-hander Zac Gallen and, according to Ken Rosenthal, an experienced sinker-baller who almost threw a perfect game this season.
The Diamondbacks acquired starting pitcher Mike Leake from the Seattle Mariners.
The 31-year-old Leake is 9-8 with a 4.40 ERA on this season. While Leake has had his issues keeping the ball in the ballpark this year--he's allowed 26 home runs in 137 innings--he's walked just 19 batters and was three outs away from a perfect game this season, indicating he can still be tough to square up on any given night.
Infielder Jose Caballero, who is hitting .268 with three home runs in 43 games for the High-A Visalia Rawhide, will head to Seattle in this deal.
While Arizona might have lost an ace in Greinke, they've picked up two pitchers in Leake and Gallen that could help ease the blow by eating up innings consistently.
