VIDEO: Diana Taurasi Praises Gigi Bryant While Taking Funny Jab at LeBron James During Kobe Bryant Memorial
By Scott Rogust
It's been nearly a month since the tragic deaths of Kobe and Gianna Bryant, on a day in which seven others lost their lives in a tragic helicopter crash. On Monday, the world officially mourned the loss of the Bryants at a public memorial at the Staples Center, a place that Kobe called home for 20 years. Among the many speakers at the service was WNBA star Diana Taurasi, who took time to speak about Gigi, a budding basketball star in her own right. In her speech, she credited "Mambacita" for learning the fadeaway jump shot at the age of 11, while also taking a jab at current Lakers star LeBron James.
"Who has a turnaround, fadeaway jumper at 11? LeBron's barely got it today," Taurasi quipped.
Taurasi made the joke to show just how bright of a future Gigi had in the game of basketball. Having the "Black Mamba" as her father certainly helped, as he took her under his wing to teach her how to play the game.
Unfortunately, tragedy struck, and now we will never know how big of an impact Gigi Bryant would've had on women's basketball.
