Didi Gregorius Removed From Yankees-Dodgers After Taking Clayton Kershaw Pitch to Shoulder
By Scott Rogust
The ever-annoying injury bug has purchased residence in the New York Yankees clubhouse this season, as the roster has fallen like proverbial dominoes. Sunday was no different for the Bronx Bombers.
In the top of the first inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Didi Gregorius took a Clayton Kershaw pitch to the right shoulder. Crisis appeared to be averted as Gregorius took his base, but that wasn't the case.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone removed Gregorius from the game in the third inning due to a right shoulder contusion, where he will have x-rays at Dodger Stadium. Mike Ford pinch hit for Gregorius, and will man first base, while Gleyber Torres replaced "Sir Didi" at shortstop.
At this point into the season, Yankee fans have to be numb at this point, right?
Gregorius returned to New York's lineup this past June after undergoing offseason Tommy John surgery. Since then, Gregorius has batted .263 with 13 home runs and 44 RBI.
While he's been diagnosed with a contusion, the New York Yankees will get official word about whether Gregorius suffered any additional injuries following Sunday night's game.
