Distribution of Bills QB Josh Allen's Career Stats Indicates He Might Be Overrated
By Jerry Trotta
The sports world skidding to a halt is especially bad news for NFL franchises that have polarizing players at the quarterback position. After all, analytics junkies now have more time than ever before to take a deep dive into the numbers.
Unfortunately for Bills Mafia, the career numbers of gunslinger Josh Allen indicate that he might be overrated. You'll notice, from this effective breakdown, that the 2018 No. 7 overall pick has done most of his damage against the AFC East, particularly the dreadful Miami Dolphins.
To be fair to Miami, the future is bright, but that wasn't apparent until the second half of the 2019 season when the organization started being competitive and began stockpiling draft capital. The Dolphins have been every quarterback's get-right opponent over the last three seasons.
In four career games against the Dolphins, Allen has thrown for 913 yards and 10 touchdowns compared to just three interceptions, numbers that equate to a 102.8 rating. Allen has played Miami more than any other team thus far in his career, but the stats prove that he's genuinely average against every other team.
We aren't huge fans of analytics-only investigations, but this distribution of Allen's numbers is as simplistic as it gets. This might not sit well with Bills supporters, but their quarterback might not be as good as they think. Any signal caller is capable of blowing up against the Dolphins, after all.
