Dodgers Activate David Freese Following Hamstring Injury
By Will Fowler
As the All-Star break gets underway, Dodger fans can take solace in knowing that once the second half kicks off, they'll have some reinforcements arriving at the corners. After missing 16 games on the injured list, veteran David Freese will be back with the team for its second half opener with the Red Sox.
Freese was enjoying a rather impressive age-36 season, as he was slashing an impressive .308/.407/.592 with 8 home runs and 23 runs batted in before hitting the IL. Despite not reaching minimum plate appearance requirements to appear on the league's official leaderboards, he currently sits second on the team in batting average, OBP, slugging percentage, and OPS -- with superstar Cody Bellinger in front of him in each.
His return to the lineup is one that the Dodgers may not have needed based on their impressive record, but it's one that they will certainly enjoy. A whopping 13.5 games ahead of the Diamondbacks in the NL West, it looks like the Dodgers will be able to cruise to the finish line with an eye toward making a third straight run at the World Series.
