Dodgers Fans Angry About Dave Roberts' Return Clearly Don't Know How Good They Have it

Dodgers fans have every right to be furious at their team following Los Angeles' disappointing NLDS exit at the hands of the playoff-cursed Washington Nationals.

To the ire of some fans, LA will be keeping Dave Roberts as the team's manager in 2020. But those fans who feel Roberts is the issue clearly do not understand why the Dodgers are watching the rest of the playoffs at home.

Roberts receiving flak for his bullpen moves is the natural scrutiny a manager will face when on the big stage. No matter what he does, people will be upset and hindsight will never be his friend.

At the end of the day, the Dodgers failed to advance because their players simply did not perform.

Clayton Kershaw is a three-time Cy Young winner and former MVP who should carry his team in October. He shouldn't be blowing games in the playoffs at this magnitude. Ever heard of Justin Verlander? Instead, Kershaw allowed five earned runs in just 6.1 innings against the Nationals.

What else? MVP frontrunner Cody Bellinger slugged 47 bombs and produced a 169 OPS+ this year. However, for the third straight postseason, Bellinger went missing.

What's Roberts supposed to do in October when the guys who lead them there suddenly disappear? His job is to put the right people out on the field, not perform for them.

We can point to his one bullpen flaw, bringing in Kelly instead of Kenley Jansen, but the Dodgers realistically should've never even been in that situation.

This was Roberts' worst season in charge of the team. Over that span, he's won four division titles, been to two World Series and made three NLCS appearances. That's pretty darn good. Now it's time for the players to bring home the World Series trophy.
