Dodgers' Julio Urias Being Reinstated Due to Lack of Video Evidence is the Wrong Move
By Brian Cass
On Monday it was reported Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias would be returning to the team on Tuesday in wake of his involvement in an alleged domestic incident.
The reason? Major League Baseball has yet to get its hand on the mall security video that's believed to obtain evidence of Urias allegedly pushing a woman to the ground in the parking lot. Is that really a good enough reason to let him return to the field?
He was placed on administrative leave after being arrested. This wasn't a situation where he was accused and nothing came of it. Witnesses saw him allegedly use physical force against a woman. Shouldn't that be enough to keep him on the shelf indefinitely?
Although the MLB's investigation into these allegations is ongoing and the league could've extended his administrative leave by another week, it's been reported the MLBPA and Urias would not have consented to that and could've moved forth with filing a grievance.
The MLB wants to make its game more appealing to viewers, especially the younger generations, and you're going to allow a guy who was arrested for domestic violence return to the field in a week because you haven't gotten your hands on the video proof yet?
Urias is obviously innocent until proven guilty and has every right to fight his case, but this is a bad look for the MLB given the sensitivity surrounding domestic violence nowadays.
