Dodgers Need to Do Whatever it Takes to Trade for Felipe Vazquez or Shane Greene
By Michael Luciano
Once a point of pride for the Los Angeles Dodgers, their bullpen has morphed into a major question mark over the course of the 2019 season. Joe Kelly looks like a totally different pitcher as opposed to the one who shut down these same Dodgers just months ago, Pedro Baez has lost his touch, and the formerly unhittable Kenley Jansen hasn't been his usual dominant self.
Andrew Friedman has been looking at almost every potential avenue as it pertains to improving the bullpen, chief among them pursuing a trade for Tigers All-Star closer Shane Greene or Pirates relief ace Felipe Vazquez.
Friedman needs to pull the trigger on one of these deals without a doubt.
Thanks to some excellent drafting and player development, the Dodgers have one of the best farm systems in baseball. Their top six prospects, including catcher Keibert Ruiz, starter Dustin May, and infielder Gavin Lux, are all with their Triple-A team in Oklahoma City, so they have more than enough ammunition to get one of these deals done.
Adding one of these two studs would go a long way toward rectifying their late-game struggles in close contests.
Unless the Dodgers want to lose a third straight World Series, an elite closer or reliever is not a luxury, but rather a necessity.
