Dodgers Place Joe Kelly on Bereavement List and Promote Kyle Garlick
By Parker White
On Friday, the Los Angeles Dodgers placed right-handed pitcher Joe Kelly on the bereavement list. To take his spot on the active roster, the Dodgers have recalled outfielder Kyle Garlick from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
This is the second time Garlick has been called up by the Dodgers, as he made his MLB debut last week. In 35 games at Triple-A, the 27-year-old is slashing .280/.375/.627 with 10 home runs and 20 RBI and he should continue to benefit from a stacked LA lineup.
Kelly, 30, was the big offseason addition for the Dodgers after a dominant postseason for the Boston Red Sox. However, that hasn't translated to 2019, as he's appeared in 17 games and owns a 7.79 ERA. The big problem for Kelly is keeping his opponents in the yard, as he's already given up three homers in 17.1 innings, a year after giving up four for the entire 2018 season.
