Dodgers Place Kenta Maeda on IL Following Strong Start and Promote Two Prospects
By Parker White
On Friday, the Los Angeles Dodgers officially placed veteran right-handed starter Kenta Maeda on the 10-day injured list with a left abductor contusion.
The Dodgers also announced that they've recalled infielder Matt Beaty and selected the contract of outfielder Kyle Garlick from Triple-A Oklahoma City to fill spots on the active 25-man roster.
Maeda's placement on the injured list comes after he made a brilliant start on Wednesday where he threw 6.2 innings of shutout ball with 12 strikeouts. However, Maeda fouled a ball off his thigh, and the team has decided to place him on the IL as a precaution.
Beaty, 26, has already made his MLB debut this season, and in three at-bats, he has two hits and an RBI. In 28 games at Triple-A, he's slashing .299/.380/.467 with three home runs and 15 RBI.
Garlick is a former 28th round pick of the Colorado Rockies and he'll be getting his first taste of the big leagues. In 418 career minor league games over five seasons, the 27-year-old has slashed .283/.341/.519 with 78 home runs. This season at Triple-A, he's hitting .280 with 10 home runs and 20 RBI.
