Dodgers Projected Starting Rotation for MLB Playoffs
By Parker White
A huge reason why the Los Angeles Dodgers won over 100 games and have home-field advantage in the National League for the postseason is because of their starting rotation. They have a killer trio at the top, which could very well carry them to the Fall Classic.
But we don't know what the official rotation will be until a few days from now. Let's look at the Dodgers projected starting rotation for the MLB playoffs.
4. Game 4: LHP Rich Hill
It's been an injury-riddled 2019 campaign for Rich Hill, as he's only made 13 starts on the season. However, he appears to be healthy now and in those starts he owns a 2.45 ERA with 72 strikeouts over 58.2 innings. Manager Dave Roberts has confidence in him and he's been battle-tested in the postseason. The only other option the Dodgers have at that point would be a bullpen game.
3. Game 3: RHP Walker Buehler
Walker Buehler is a power right-hander and probably has the best "stuff" on this team, so why not have him pitch the first game on the road? He'd be a Game 1 starter for just about every other playoff team, but the Dodgers are in a unique situation where they have three All-Star pitchers to choose from.
2. Game 2: LHP Clayton Kershaw
The Dodgers kind of tipped their hand on when Clayton Kershaw is going to start, as he pitched a relief inning in the final game of the regular season which would line him up for Game 2. Obviously, this could change but he's been so good at home (10-2 with a 2.89 ERA) that it makes sense for him to pitch the second game of every series.
1. Game 1: LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu
Whatever the Dodgers do, they need Hyun-Jin Ryu to start at home. In 14 starts at Dodger Stadium, Ryu is 10-1 with a 1.93 ERA and averaged over a strikeout per inning. When he's not in the home whites, Ryu is 4-4 with a 2.72 ERA in 15 starts. He'll give the Dodgers a great chance to win no matter where he pitches, but dominant Ryu resides at home.
