Dodgers Reportedly Getting Aggressive on Dellin Betances
Dellin Betances' injury-riddled season in his contract year was not what the flame-throwing right-hander was hoping for. Betances featured in just one game and recorded two outs in 2019 due to various injuries.
Those ailments have not lessened interest for the four-time All-Star. Multiple teams have expressed interest in the star reliever, and now you can add the Los Angeles Dodgers to the list.
The Dodgers missed out on Gerrit Cole to the New York Yankees, and have since been linked to Madison Bumgarner. They're also addressing the bullpen in the offseason, however, having inked Blake Treinen to a one-year, $10 million deal on Wednesday. And now it looks like they're trying to further improve their 'pen with the potential acquisition of Betances.
Betances boasts a career 11.6 WAR, 2.36 ERA and holds the MLB record of five consecutive seasons with 100+ strikeouts as a reliever. He is the perfect set-up man for someone like Kenley Jansen and could even close if necessary.
Adding Betances would give the Dodgers a dominant trio in relief, made up of Jansen, Treinen and Betances. And they still boast hard-throwing Joe Kelly as well, despite his down year in 2019.
If the Dodgers are successful in their pursuit of Betances, they'll enter 2020 with a truly formidable bullpen to go with already-potent roster.
