Dodgers Reportedly Maintaining Interest in Tigers Closer Shane Greene
By Charles Nason
The Los Angeles Dodgers typically rely on Kenley Jansen as their closing pitcher. With the deadline less than two weeks away, they're looking to add some depth to their bullpen.
One of their primary targets seems to be Detroit Tigers closing pitcher Shane Greene. The 30-year-old hurler is having a solid 2019 campaign with 22 saves through 34 innings with a 1.06 ERA. Already sitting as the best team in the MLB, the Dodgers could be unstoppable with the help of Greene to take some of the pressure of Jansen.
The 2019 season has been a disastrous one for the Tigers. With his team at a meager 29-63 and last in the AL Central, Greene would seriously benefit from a trade to a team like the Dodgers.
Greene has been sidelined briefly this season, battling a shoulder strain on his throwing arm. However, he was recently reactivated by the Tigers after spending 10 days on the injured list.
Nonetheless, Greene was named an All-Star in 2019. Due to that, along with his incredible stats on the year, he's drawn attention in the trade market from more than just the Dodgers.
Wherever Greene ends up after the trade deadline, he'll likely continue to flourish in what has become one of the best seasons of his six-year professional career.
At this point, it's safe to say that Greene won't be in a Tigers uniform for much longer. If other clubs choose to pass on Greene before the July 31 trade deadline, he could find himself pitching in Los Angeles for the remainder of the 2019 season.
