With a lot of shuffling going on in the Dodgers' otherworldly lineup this week, LA's brass is also taking the time to make sure those who were already there feel taken care of.

As we wait for the Mookie Betts trade to be officially announced, Los Angeles got to work finishing off a gift package for Max Muncy, one of many underrated gems who's been pulled out of nowhere by this player development machine over the past few years.

Muncy's now locked in at a relatively low cost for three more years, with a solidly cheap fourth-year option.

Muncy was worth 5.7 WAR in 2019, in a stunning follow-up to his breakout '18 campaign, notching 35 homers in both seasons. I guess you can avoid a "sophomore slump" if you've already paid your dues beforehand; Muncy spent 2015 and '16 struggling to stick on Oakland's roster, before finding new life in Hollywood.

This deal buys out a few years of his arbitration (he was first eligible in 2020), and will present an option year at the beginning of his free agency cycle (set for the 2023 offseason).

For the next several seasons, things in Los Angeles are bound to stay funky, thanks once again to that Funky Muncy.
