Dodgers Trade Talks With Pirates for Felipe Vazquez Reportedly Stall as LA Won't Deal Top Prospect
By Jerry Trotta
There's no denying that, top-to-bottom, the Los Angeles Dodgers boast baseball's most dangerous, star-studded roster. Put simply, their lineup and starting rotation is a PROBLEM that should strike fear in all World Series-aspirational clubs.
However, LA's bullpen, formerly a genuine strength of the club, is something that should have all Dodgers fans feeling groggy ahead of the July 31 trade deadline.
And the organization strived to solve the ever-prevalent problem by dealing for Pirates world-beating southpaw Felipe Vazquez. However, they aren't willing to cough up No.1 prospect Gavin Lux, whom Pittsburgh has demanded in return.
We aren't surprised that the Dodgers were reluctant to offload Lux, even though Vazquez is arguably the league's most dominant reliever. The two-time All-Star boasts a remarkable 1.87 ERA to go with 68 strikeouts and 21 saves across 43.1 innings for the Pirates.
Though the 28-year-old stud should absolutely demand a hefty return package, the fact of the matter is that Los Angeles sees Lux as the future of their infield. In truth, the Indian Trail High School product might even get the call-up in the coming weeks.
We see these kind of stalemates formulate each year around the deadline and it appears that LA will have to look elsewhere for bullpen help. Stay tuned for updates, because the franchise is absolutely still the market for a hurler.
