Dodgers Troll Mets by Using Chase Utley Bat in Monday Night Showdown
By Jerry Trotta
Even in retirement, Chase Utley is giving Mets fans nightmares. For 15 seasons, the six-time All-Star haunted New York at the plate and in the field, as he seemed to deliver every single time he was called upon in clutch situations.
But perhaps the most fresh, painful memory came during the 2015 NLDS when Utley famously broke Ruben Tejada's leg with a vicious slide while trying to break up a double play.
Fast forward to Monday night, however, and Dodgers utility man Kike Hernandez used the now-retired Utley's lumber to a lunch a game-altering three-run home run in the sixth inning of the Dodgers 9-5 win over the Mets.
Just when you think he's in the past, he comes back with a vengeance. Something tells us that Utley's spirit willed that ball over the fence, and when you look at his career numbers against the Mets, you will surely think the same.
In 194 games against the Amazin’s, Utley hit 39 home runs, the most he notched against any team, batted .282, and collected 197 hits.
Those are Chipper Jones-like Mets-killing statistics!
It's one thing to be epically trolled by another club. That happens on an everyday basis. But to have a troll job succeed in that fashion? It really would only happen to the Mets.
