Dolphins Already on Verge of Making Crucial Mistake With Tua Tagovailoa if Latest Reports Are True
By Andrew Gullotta
The Dolphins are attempting to turn the corner in their rebuilding process after selecting their next franchise quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in the 2020 draft. The team hopes that the Alabama product can lead the franchise back to the promise land, but first, he is going to have to develop properly. Is Miami already making their first mistake with handling Tagovailoa?
According to multiple insiders, including Bleacher Report's Mike Freeman and former NFL quarterback Michael Vick, the National Champion has the inside track to start the season as QB1 over veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick in Miami.
Tagovailoa has amazing talent. In his time in Tuscaloosa, the Hawaii native threw for 87 touchdowns compared to just 11 interceptions in 32 games for the Crimson Tide. He dominated the toughest conference in college football, as Alabama went 30-2 when Tagovailoa was playing.
Even though the 2018 All-American lit up the college game, he did get hurt in his final season at Alabama, injuring his shoulder in a game vs. Mississippi State. Combine that with the massive gap between college and pro play, and it may be the wrong decision to throw Tagovailoa into the fire at the beginning of 2020.
With a serviceable and veteran signal caller on the roster, playing Tua right away is the wrong call. Tagovailoa can benefit greatly by learning the ropes of the NFL game from Fitzpatrick, and make sure his hip is 100% healed.
Starting the season with Tagovailoa at the helm is the flashy choice that will create a lot of buzz in Miami. However, the Dolphins should try and protect their franchise QB for the long haul.
