Dolphins and Colts Should Consider Bold Josh Rosen Trade
The Indianapolis Colts lost franchise quarterback Andrew Luck to retirement prior to a season in which Super Bowl aspirations weren't out of the question. Now, the team hands the keys to Jacoby Brissett.
But what if they made another move before Week 1?
The Miami Dolphins recently named veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick the starting quarterback for Week 1 after a draft day trade saw them acquire Josh Rosen from the Arizona Cardinals.
It's no secret the Dolphins are feverishly trying to lose this year, with trades of Laremy Tunsil, Kiko Alonso and Kenny Stills, among other roster moves. What better way to continue to lose than give Fitzpatrick the keys for the entire season?
That's right, the Dolphins should think about trading Rosen, and the Colts are a team that can afford to take a shot on the young signal caller. Brissett has proven his ceiling is likely a league-average quarterback, while the jury is still out on Rosen. The Colts should deal for the quarterback in hopes of him fulfilling his draft day pedigree of a franchise quarterback.
It's a win-win for both franchises. First, the draft compensation shoudn't be too heavy for the Colts, while the Dolphins would accumulate another pick toward next year's draft, for which the Dolphins clearly have their sights set on Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert.
As for the Colts, they get another crack at a franchise quarterback without needing a top-three draft pick and could salvage Rosen's inauspicious start to his NFL career.
But of course, this deal might be one of those that are too obvious to happen.
