Dolphins Can't Pass on Georgia RB D'Andre Swift if He's Available With No. 18 Pick
By Brady Williams
With three first-round picks, the Miami Dolphins have a golden opportunity to set the tone for the future in the 2020 NFL Draft. They've struggled to find their identity in recent years with several starting quarterback and head coaching changes. However, if they do what Mel Kiper's latest mock draft projects them to do, they could be looking at a dynamic future on offense.
And things will truly be sweet if they're able to land Georgia speedster D'Andre Swift.
Kiper believes the Dolphins will use the No. 5 overall pick to draft Tua Tagovailoa to be their new franchise quarterback. If Swift is available when their No. 18 pick is up, it will be a steal.
Swift is regarded as the best running back in the draft by many analysts, and putting him alongside Tua would set the Dolphins up for a promising future.
The UGA product had back-to-back 1,00- yard rushing seasons in 2018 and 2019. He's one of the safest bets in the entire draft, and Miami needs to establish their offense.
Only seven running backs have been selected in the first round since 2016. The position is undervalued in today's game. However, passing up on a talent like Swift would be a fatal mistake for the Dolphins.
The only real rushing threat they have is Jordan Howard, but they need a young player that can be Tua's right-hand man moving forward. There's hardly a better choice than Swift.
