With DeVante Parker breaking out and proving he's one of the elite wide receivers in football, the only question was when he'd get paid.

This was answered on Friday when the Dolphins gave Parker a massive four-year extension that's reportedly worth $40 million. The deal will lock him up through the 2023 season.

This is a hefty extension, but Parker fully deserves it. The 26-year-old currently has 882 yards and six touchdowns on the season while averaging 16 yards per catch. He's been one of the only bright spots for an abysmal Dolphins squad.

It remains unclear what the future holds at quarterback in Miami. Despite that, Parker will be around as the top target for the Dolphins for the foreseeable future, and can ease the transition of any incoming quarterback, or help develop Josh Rosen, depending on the route Miami ends up exploring.

With this longterm commitment to Parker, it's clear he will be part of Miami's future as they're clearly still rebuilding. If they end up drafting a quality arm, Parker could stand to benefit mightily.

A franchise quarterback along with an elite receiver is a deadly combination. Once a duo like that is established, Miami can build the rest of the offense around them.

While not much has gone favorably for Brian Flores in his debut campaign in Miami, locking up Parker is a big win for the franchise.
