Dolphins Need to Make This Trade With Patriots for Joe Thuney to Avoid Moving up to No. 3 to Draft Lineman
By Thomas Carannante

On Tuesday there was a rumor floating around that the Miami Dolphins were considering making a trade with the Detroit Lions to move up to No. 3 overall and select an offensive lineman. That got many of us confused considering Miami has THREE first-round picks and this is a deep class for OL. Why trade up and waste draft capital?
Well, that sentiment has been echoed by NFL insider Ian Rapoport on Wednesday, and we can't stand idly by and let the Dolphins make such a dumb move.
Sources: The #Dolphins have called the teams in front of them for a possible trade up from No. 5 and are gauging the price to come up to No. 3 to potentially take an offensive tackle. We could see a run on tackles in the Top 10 like never before.

We have an alternative! Call up the New England Patriots and make a deal for star lineman Joe Thuney. The veteran's been franchise-tagged but the two sides can't agree to a long-term extension. The Pats badly need cap space and the Dolphins need more talent along the OL. Thuney isn't a tackle, but he's a versatile guard, which will go a long way in improving this unit. Take a lineman at No. 5 (or anywhere else!) and don't waste picks trading up two spots.
The better news? The Dolphins have the cap space to ink Thuney for the long haul and the Patriots don't have much leverage in any potential trade. They tagged him, can't work out a long-term deal, and are seeing a mass exodus of players this offseason. Miami should offer them one of their second-round picks (No. 39 or No. 56) and call it a day. Give Thuney an extension and maybe trade up from No. 18 to land a young tackle.

Look, we shouldn't live and die by big boards, but many of them don't have an offensive lineman in the top five. Given the plentiful names expected to go in the first round -- Mekhi Becton, Tristan Wirfs, Jedrick Wills, Andrew Thomas, Josh Jones, Ezra Cleveland and Austin Jackson -- there's just no reason for Miami to make a colossal move like this.
