This Dolphins-Texans Trade for Deshaun Watson Could Actually Work if Bill O'Brien Decides to Mail it in
By Michael Luciano
Houston Texans GM/head/coach/emperor Bill O'Brien has parted ways with the likes of Jadeveon Clowney and DeAndre Hopkins in back-to-back offseasons, but has failed to get a first-round pick in return for either of those stars.
This has clearly frustrated quarterback Deshaun Watson, who has let loose with a few cryptic tweets hinting at the possibility he is angling for a trade.
In need of a quarterback and certainly willing to do business with/take advantage of O'Brien, the Miami Dolphins could be a potential landing spot if O'Brien blows everything up, assuming the situation gets more tense with the franchise star.
The Dolphins own picks No. 5, 18, and 26 in this draft, the latter of which was acquired from Houston. Miami's first two picks this year will have to go to Houston for Watson. A first-round pick the following year will also need to be dealt, as will a second-round pick the year after.
Watson is a superstar in the making at 24 years old with two Pro Bowls under his belt, but he will need a gargantuan new deal sooner rather than later. Good news for the Dolphins though! The salary cap will likely be increasing exponentially in the coming years, so they'll probably have the financial flexibility to make it happen even after adding Byron Jones, Shaq Lawson and Kyle Van Noy.
That's an absurd haul for Houston, but Watson is one of the 10 best quarterbacks in football who can hold down the QB1 job for a decade. If O'Brien commits career suicide by trading Watson, Miami could be the team who gives him the most in return.
