Domingo German's Injured List Stint Actually Helped the Yankees in a Big Way

The 2019 New York Yankees, stuck in a hellish cycle in which the vast majority of their intended contributors have hit the IL, have been able to ride unexpected performers to extreme success this season. Heck, they only found out how lethal Domingo German can be due to injuries to Luis Severino and Jonathan Loaisiga, among others.

German, who is currently leading the AL with 16 wins, even managed to help the Yankees out this year when he himself was injured. Due to German having missed time earlier in the season, GM Brain Cashman said it is difficult to envision an innings limit for German as October approaches, something every Yankee fan has secretly panicked about in the second half.

After coming over from the Marlins as a throw-in in the deal that sent Martin Prado and David Phelps to Miami (and Nathan Eovaldi back to New York), German has exceeded the Yankees' wildest expectations of what he could do on the mound, going 16-2 with a 3.96 ERA.

Those numbers look even better when you consider he was lit up in three starts, during which he was pitching through the hip injury that forced him to miss some time.

In a year where even Masahiro Tanaka and James Paxton have been roughed up, hopefully the Yankees can count on their psuedo-ace without any restrictions as the 2019 playoffs approach.
