VIDEO: Donald Trump Actually Just Said Colin Kaepernick Should Get an NFL Job
By Max Bevington
While the fight over NFL kneeling prepares to rage on entering 2020, we've been given a significant heel turn as well. In a rather surprising video that dropped on Wednesday night, President Trump stated that he believes former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who is obviously well-known for starting the peaceful protest movement during the National Anthem, deserves another shot in the league.
In his answer, Trump expressed his feelings that the former 49ers quarterback should get another chance if he has the potential and talent to play at an NFL caliber level. Trump specifically pointed to the early years of Kaepernick's career and recognized his high-level play.
This statement comes as a surprise, with the president having criticized Kaepernick in the past, along with the entire NFL and Nike, the brand that hired Kaepernick as a spokesperson in 2018 to raise awareness about social justice.
At the end of Trump's blurb on Kaepernick, he again stressed that if Kaep has the ability to succeed in the NFL and play well, he would support Kaepernick's return, but also pointed out that in Kaepernick's later years with the 49ers, his play declined significantly.
Regardless of his stands for justice, the notion that Kaepernick's play declined is ultimately true. After Kaepernick's best seasons in 2013 and 2014, where he threw for more than 3,000 yards each year, he struggled in 2015 and 2016, throwing for less than 3,000 yards each of those years, and was plagued by injuries.
No matter what anyone thinks about Kaepernick as a person, or his skills as a player, it is seeming like he has a good shot at an NFL comeback, which will put all eyes on him.
