Doug Flutie is not a name on the top of minds for young NFL fans. But he sure was a unique player back in his day.

The 57-year-old was a running quarterback before it was cool, splitting most of his time between the NFL and the CFL. Flutie is still a fan of the game and thinks what he is seeing out of MVP candidate Lamar Jackson means he could have had success in today's game.

Flutie does have a point. He finished his Canadian career with 4,660 rushing yards in eight seasons and even had 465 rushing yards in his lone USFL season.

He only stands 5-foot-10, but his running ability would have made him something like a poor man's Kyler Murray in today's game. But apologies to Flutie; Jackson is on a whole different level.

The crazy thing about Flutie is that he was a runner but still lasted 21 professional seasons between three different leagues. Though it is still funny to hear former players somehow downplay the success of current top players, Flutie comparing himself in any way to Jackson should draw harmless laughs.
