Doug Marrone Isn't Getting Fired by the Jaguars After All
By Michael Luciano
The Jacksonville Jaguars will once again hitch their wagon to Doug Marrone in 2020, despite earlier reports that he was on his way out of Duval County.
While ESPN reported that last Sunday's game against the Colts was to be Marrone's swan song in Jacksonville, Jaguars owner Shad Khan confirmed that Marrone and GM Dave Caldwell will keep their jobs for the 2020 season.
Counting his days with the Buffalo Bills, Marrone has a 37-45 record in the NFL as a head coach, including a 22-28 mark in Jacksonville. While he went 10-6 and rode a stifling defense to the AFC Championship game in his first season in Jacksonville, he has won just 11 games over his last two seasons, including six in 2019.
Khan called 2019's 6-10 season "unacceptable", but also said he was convinced to keep them based on Marrone's plan for the next season. Additionally, Marrone and Caldwell will report directly to Khan.
Marrone has been dealt a lousy hand in Jacksonville, as Blake Bortles and Nick Foles haven't proven to be the answer in terms of quarterbacks, but hopefully Marrone can keep riding the Gardner Minshew wave as he attempts to recapture the mojo that brought him within a game of the Super Bowl a few years ago. Or maybe Foles bounces back next year. Only time will tell.
