Drew Brees' Potentially 'Concerning' Injury Far More Serious Issue Than Refs in Saints Loss to Rams
By Chris Pyo
The New Orleans Saints have been screwed over by NFL referees so many times that Saints fans have got to be thinking that Roger Goodell has some sort of vendetta against them.
Sadly enough, this wasn't even the worst part of the Saints' 27-9 loss to the Los Angeles Rams today.
While the Saints were victims of a significant officiating gaffe that negated a Cameron Jones touchdown fumble return, the bigger news for the game was that Saints quarterback and NFL legend Drew Brees was sidelined by an injury late in the first quarter after Aaron Donald got a late hit on Brees' throwing hand.
While Brees was officially listed as questionable to return with a hand injury, a later portion of FOX's broadcast showed Brees being unable to grip a football with his throwing hand.
If you can't grip a football as an NFL QB without feeling too much pain, you know you're in trouble.
This is undoubtedly a huge blow to the Saints and their season, even more than the officiating mishaps that went against them today. Brees serves as the heart and soul not only for the Saints, but arguably for all of New Orleans.
Without Brees, the Saints called on backup QB Teddy Bridgewater to finish the rest of the game, and he went 17-30 for 165 yards in the loss.
We have yet to know how significant Brees' injury is, and to what extent he'll be held out of future games, but this is something Saints fans should definitely be concerned about moving forward.
