Drew Brees Shares Positive Update on Instagram After Undergoing Thumb Surgery
By Scott Rogust
The New Orleans Saints' Super Bowl chances took a massive hit on Sunday, after quarterback Drew Brees suffered a torn ligament in his right thumb when he smacked hands with Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald on a pass attempt.
On Wednesday, Brees underwent surgery on his throwing thumb, performed by hand specialist Dr. Steve Shin, and posted a positive update on his Instagram account following surgery.
Brees showcasing that he can still have a sense of humor following rather serious surgery.
With the procedure now completed, the veteran NFL quarterback is expected to be out of action for at least the next six weeks. Head coach Sean Payton revealed earlier on Wednesday that New Orleans has no plans on placing Brees on injured reserve, which would have kept him on the sidelines for eight weeks.
Now, with Brees set to undergo rehabilitation, the Saints will turn to backup Teddy Bridgewater to take over the reigns and lead the team to some wins. Not to mention Taysom Hill could make an impact, as he always does in Payton's offense.
Week one without Drew Brees on the field begins this Sunday, as the Saints take on a Seattle Seahawks pass defense that ranks 26th in the entire NFL.
