Drew Waters is Yet Another Stud Prospect Rocketing Through the Braves' System

The Atlanta Braves are lauded for the amount of pitching talent they have up and down their system, as well as the young starters who've made their debuts over the last couple years, including 2019 All-Star Mike Soroka.

But maybe we should start paying attention to the outfield talent that is percolating at the upper levels of the minor leagues.

We know the amazing talent that Ronald Acuña Jr. is, and top overall prospect Cristian Pache has been feeling the love over the last couple years. However, there's another outfield prospect in the Braves system that needs to be recognized: Drew Waters.

The 20-year-old out of Woodstock, Georgia, who the Braves nabbed in the second round of the 2017 draft, is tearing up Double-A Mississippi and appears to be ahead of schedule, especially considering he was in high school a couple years ago.

In 94 games at Double-A, Waters is slashing .333/.377/.508 with 45 extra-base hits (31 doubles and nine triples), 34 RBI and 12 stolen bases.

The power is still coming, which you expect with maturity, but at his age, he's still leading the Southern League in batting average, hits (122), runs scored (56), doubles and triples.

How did he not make the Future's Game?

If all goes as planned, Waters probably won't make his MLB debut until 2020, even though it wouldn't be a bad idea to consider him if an important outfield piece goes down.

One thing for sure is that Waters has joined Pache and right-hander Ian Anderson as Braves prospects who are untouchable. There aren't many players I'd move him for, especially when you look at this year's crop of trade deadline candidates.

A future Braves outfield of Acuña Jr, Pache and Waters could be right around the corner, folks.
