Ducks Goalie John Gibson Honors Kobe and Gigi Bryant With Awesome Custom Mask
By Jack Murphy
After the horrific tragedy that took the life of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna as well as seven other victims, many athletes and fans across the world have honored the ones lost with small but meaningful acts.
John Gibson, goalie for the Anaheim Ducks, paid his respects to all the victims of the disastrous helicopter crash by wearing a custom helmet in the Ducks' contest against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday.
Over the past few days, we have seen many examples of custom shoes, tattoos and artwork paying respect to Kobe and his daughter. This is the first time we have seen a custom goalie mask in tribute of all those who passed. It goes to show how much of an impact Bryant had on all of sports, not only basketball.
The mask has so many sincere features. Obviously, the numbers 8 and 24 represent the two numbers Bryant wore during his career. The six stars that align the top show the years Kobe won championships, as well as "81" for his highest scoring game.
On the back on the mask, the names of all the victims are imprinted. The best feature on the entire mask however, is the depiction of Kobe with his arm over his daughters shoulder as they have halos over their heads.
Kobe Bryant was a legend that impacted millions around the globe and it is devastating he was taken away at such a young age. Kudos to Gibson for honoring the late legend with a beautiful custom mask.
