Fans in attendance at Chase Field for Sunday's NL West showdown between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks were forced to hold their collective breaths in the fourth inning when Los Angeles starter Dustin May went down clutching his head upon being beaned with a howling comebacker.

Thankfully, the 21-year-old rookie was able to sit up relatively quickly and even walked off the field on his own power after being attended to by LA's medical staff.

All signs indicate that May is doing just fine as he was able to field questions from reporters after the game. He even reassured Dodgers devotees with an extremely sarcastic, but reassuring update on his status.

Perhaps the most telling piece of that farfetched quote is the fact that the ball grazed May's glove before it reached his head. If the glove wasn't able to deter some of the liners scorching speed, who knows how more severe the injury could have been.

It remains to be seen if skipper Dave Roberts and Co. will skip May's next scheduled start to give him an extra week for the "contusion" to heal, but the fact that the young hurler walked away without even a concussion just confirms the happy ending to this potentially ill-fated narrative.
