It seems like Dustin Pedroia's body may have let him down for the last time. The Red Sox second baseman has been dealing with repeated damage to his surgically-repaired knee for the past two seasons, and has appeared in just nine games.

In his press conference on Monday after being transferred to the 60-day IL and returned from his rehab, Pedroia gave an uncertain answer on his future in the MLB.

In Pedroia's most recent game for Double-A Portland, he was pulled after just four innings. There wasn't any contact to his knee; according to manager Alex Cora, his knee "simply just didn't feel right".

Pedroia had surgery on his left knee back in 2016. Since then, he has never been physically the same, and has continued to bother him, whether or not he's been on the field. Pedroia admitted in the press conference that it may never recover.

He refused to give a time frame for how long it might take to determine whether or not his return is possible.

If Pedroia's 14-year career does come to an end, he will have left his mark with the Red Sox. The Sox legend has three World Series championships to his name, along with a AL MVP award. He'll absolutely never be forgotten, as the true engine behind some incredible years of a legendary franchise.
