VIDEO: Dwyane Wade Pleads the 5th When Asked About Rigging NBA Dunk Contest for Derrick Jones Jr.
By Michael Luciano
Many believe that the 2020 NBA Slam Dunk Contest should have been won by Orlando Magic high-flyer Aaron Gordon, as opposed to Derrick Jones Jr., the Miami Heat wing who claimed the title. Dwyane Wade, one of the five judges in that contest, has been accused of playing favorites and siding with the Heat player over a star on the rival Magic. Wade isn't telling anyone if that was the case, as he wasn't giving anyone the full truth in an appearance on Andy Cohen's show.
Wade was one of three judges to give Aaron Gordon's final dunk, in which he jumped over a 7-5 Tacko Fall, a 9/10, which in turn helped Jones top that with a between the legs effort to seal the dunk contest title.
Gordon has two of the best dunk contests in recent memory, but questionable judging on both fronts has left him trophy-less. The worst part of all of this? Wade isn't even giving us a straight answer on if he gave Gordon a less-than-perfect score because of who he plays for!
Wade's potential conflict of interest might have been enough to give the dunk contest title to Jones over a deserving Gordon. Common and Boseman also need to be investigated, but those around the NBA aren't going to let his blatant favoritism go anytime soon.
