It's safe to say that last thing on the mind of Americans right now is the extravagant launch of a video game.

From the continuing coronavirus pandemic, to the recent death of George Floyd, the country has a lot of unrest on its plate right now. EA has read the room very well, and has decided to postpone its announcement of Madden NFL 21.

The announcement of Madden NFL 21 is not a surprising event; the long-running NFL series has been releasing yearly titles since the 1990s. Although fans will be disappointed to have to wait to see the newest features of this year's installments, EA has made the right move by delaying the announcement.

EA's statement doesn't shy away from why the delay is occuring, indirectly mentioning the tragic death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man who was killed by a police officer. Floyd's death has drawn the attention of everyone across the USA, including athletes and sports fans. Announcing Madden 21 now would just be poor timing.

Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, watching professional athletes take each other on in virtual football has become one of the most entertaining events available. It might not be real life football, but it's the next best thing.

The excitement of a new Madden will be a welcome joy when it comes. It's just simply not the time for it right now, and thankfully EA has understood that.
