3 Star Wide Receivers That Won't Be Available in Draft if Eagles Play it Safe and Don't Trade up
By Jerry Trotta
Everybody knows that the Philadelphia Eagles need to equip quarterback Carson Wentz with more talent at the wide receiver position. Their delay in doing so indicates that the franchise is planning to address the need in this year's draft.
That's a plausible plan considering that Mel Kiper's latest mock draft has the Eagles selecting LSU star Justin Jefferson, who notched over 1,500 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns in his final season in Baton Rouge, with the No. 21 overall pick.
Though Jefferson would be a welcome addition, there's really no telling if he'll actually be available if Philadelphia stays put and doesn't trade up. With that in mind, here are three WRs that definitely won't be available at No. 21 in case the Eagles were considering an aggressive trade-up.
3. Henry Ruggs III
Any team looking to add speed on the perimeter is surely drooling at the opportunity to select Ruggs. The former Crimson Tide stud isn't physically imposing, but his body strength is also grossly underrated. The 6-0, 190-pound prospect would thrive in Philadelphia with Wentz throwing the pigskin his way. However, Kiper has him going No. 15 to the Broncos. Even if Denver passes on Ruggs, he's going to be drafted before No. 21, no questions asked.
2. CeeDee Lamb
After three excellent seasons in Norman, Lamb projects to be a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. At 6-2, 190 pounds, he'd personify every bit of the dominant perimeter threat that the Eagles haven't really gotten in Alshon Jeffery. Lamb is full of talent, but perhaps his most adored attribute is how effortlessly he hauls in contested passes. Kiper has the Dallas Cowboys taking the former Sooner at No. 18, and we wouldn't be shocked if he went earlier.
1. Jerry Jeudy
A variety of NFL analysts have labeled Jeudy as the best WR in the 2020 class, and we have no qualms with that analysis. Kiper has the 49ers jumping the gun at No. 13 and making the former Alabama star the first receiver taken off the board. After letting Emmanuel Sanders walk in free agency, San Francisco seems poised to select a receiver with their first pick. If the Eagles don't trade up, they won't come close to sniffing a chance at drafting Jeudy, who registered close to 2,500 yards and 24 touchdowns in his final two seasons in Tuscaloosa.
