Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery Reportedly Expected to Be Traded on Draft Day
Alshon Jeffery had a highly disappointing season for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2019, appearing in only 10 games and posting just 490 receiving yards. The 30-year-old is set to account for a $15.4 million cap hit in 2020, so it's been no secret the Eagles would like to move on.
The team does have the cap space to keep Jeffery, but wouldn't be wrong to move on from him and give Carson Wentz some new, younger talent to play with. That is why Jeffery is likely to be traded during this week's NFL Draft, per NBC Sports insider Peter King.
The veteran wideout has shown flashes of success and was a key piece on offense when the Eagles won the Super Bowl during the 2017 season. However, his injuries and the fact he failed to reach 500 yards in 2019 has severely lowered his value. A team would have to really believe in Jeffery for the Eagles to get a trade done, and one late-round pick would surely be all the team gets in return in order to get his salary off the books.
Jeffery will always hold a special place in Eagles history for being part of that Super Bowl team. His contract just doesn't make sense to carry anymore, however, so it's time to start saying goodbyes as draft day approaches.
