While the Eagles might have Cody Kessler and 2019 fifth round pick Clayton Thorson in the quarterback room, the overwhelming favorite to earn the backup job behind Carson Wentz in Philadelphia was 2018 backup Nate Sudfeld.

During their preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans, Sudfeld left the game with an air cast on his left arm, leading some to believe he broke his arm.

Selected in the sixth round in the 2016 NFL Draft out of Indiana, Sudfeld has performed well in limited NFL action, completing 20-of-25 pass attempts with a touchdown in three games.

This injury is even more disappointing for Sudfeld and the Eagles given how well he was performing up until that point. Earlier, he went deep downfield for a 75-yard touchdown on a throw that beat Titans starter Adoree Jackson.

If ANY team knows how valuable a backup quarterback can be, it's the Eagles. If Sudfeld is unable to recover in time for the season, expect either Kessler or Thorson to man the QB2 role behind Wentz.
