Eagles Backup QB Nate Sudfeld to Undergo Surgery Friday on Broken Left Wrist
By Karl Rasmussen
The Eagles took a notable blow during their preseason debut when backup gunslinger Nate Sudfeld went down with an arm injury.
The former Indiana Hoosier was immediately placed into an air cast and carted off the field towards the locker room to receive further treatment. After evaluating his status, Sudfeld was diagnosed with a broken left wrist. He will be forced to undergo surgery on Friday.
Per insider Ian Rapoport, the Eagles won't be seeking other quarterback options just yet, and will instead rely upon Cody Kessler to serve as the No. 2 man.
Sudfeld looked sharp during his preseason debut, completing 10-of-18 passes for 177 yards and a 75-yard touchdown bomb to Marken Michel.
After Sudfeld's departure from the game, the Birds handed the ball over to Kessler, who went 3-for-6 for 12 yards, and fifth-round selection Clayton Thorson, who completed 2-of-7 pass attempts for 7 yards and an interception. Not the most encouraging work out of the backup crew.
Fortunately Carson Wentz is still healthy, and after seeing the injury to Sudfeld, Doug Pederson and Co. should have absolutely no reason to rush the fourth-year quarterback into any preseason action.
