This Underrated WR Could be a Complete Draft Steal for Eagles
By Scott Rogust
The Philadelphia Eagles have a week to appease their impatient fanbase in the NFL Draft. To say the Eagles need a wide receiver is a massive understatement, and the team didn't address the position in free agency.
Luckily for them, the wide receiver class this year is absolutely stacked. With Philadelphia holding the 21st overall pick, it's expected that top wideouts CeeDee Lamb, Jerry Jeudy, and Henry Ruggs III will be off the board by then. Fear not, Eagles fans, because the team can still land a receiver that can prove to be the steal of the entire draft.
Meet Arizona State's Brandon Aiyuk.
The former Sun Devils receiver was originally projected to be a Day 2 selection, but has since risen up draft boards. While Aiyuk initally let teams down with his 4.50-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, that's attributed to a core muscle injury, which he's since went under the knife to fix.
When watching game film, Aiyuk displays tremendous explosiveness in the passing and return games, similar to that of Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson. You listening yet, Eagles fans? Additionally, he thrives in picking up yardage after the catch, thanks to his speed.
In his senior season at Arizona State, Aiyuk caught 65 passes for 1,192 yards and eight touchdowns, while taking 14 kick returns for 446 yards.
Aiyuk would thrive in today's NFL, which is getting faster with each passing year. The Eagles would gladly welcome his skill set to Philadelphia. Sure, getting one of the top-tier wideouts would be nice, but it's not necessary for the Eagles to surrender draft capital to move up in the first round. Instead, they can just take Aiyuk, who can be just as dangerous against the opposition.
