Eagles and Bucs Reportedly Eyeing Devonta Freeman in Free Agency
By Michael Luciano
Injuries and the inability to run the ball over the last few seasons led the Atlanta Falcons to part ways with former Florida State star Devonta Freeman. If he wants to play in 2020, he isn't exactly short on suitors.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Philadelphia Eagles have both extended contracts to Freeman, who has foolishly said that he is willing to sit out the entire season if he doesn't get the contract he wants.
Freeman made two Pro Bowls in two seasons under Kyle Shanahan, recording 27 touchdowns and over 3,000 yards from scrimmage. Since then, injuries and ineffectiveness led many to believe he was simply a product of Shanahan's system, as he has managed just six touchdowns over the last two campaigns and hasn't topped 1,000 yards since 2016.
Freeman would be the backup for Miles Sanders in Philadelphia, while he would compete for touches alongside Ronald Jones and 2020 third-rounder Ke'Shawn Vaughn in Tampa Bay. His agility and receiving skills fit well in both offenses.
Freeman might never return to what he was under Shanahan, but he's got enough left in the tank to give Philadelphia or Tampa Bay a solid change of pace back.
