Eagles DC Jim Schwartz Provides Update on Rodney McLeod
By Sean Facey
Even though he appeared in a preseason game over the weekend, the status of Rodney McLeod, who is working his way back from a torn MCL, is still a bit up in the air.
On Monday, Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz provided an update on the standout safety, saying it was good to have him back out on the field and that the team looks forward to his continued presence as a communicator in the secondary.
Schwartz also called him a "calming presence," adding that "He's one of those guys that everybody just knows it’s going to be okay when he’s in there."
Prior to his injury in Week 3 of the 2018 season, McLeod was a vital part of the Eagles' defense. In 30 games across the 2016 and 2017 seasons, the veteran defensive back pulled down six interceptions while registering 13 passes defensed and 130 total tackles.
He showed plenty of promise in his return to action and that he hasn't lost a step mentally.
As Schwartz said, he brings not only talent but cohesiveness to the defense. He's the cornerstone upon which the team has built their defense against opposing passing attacks.
Though McLeod is still a bit of a question mark coming off of such a major injury at the age of 29, there's no doubt that having him back in the fray will help the Eagles defense succeed in the 2019 NFL season.
